How do I winterize my lawn mower?

We offer a few tips for preparing your mower for the off–season.

Now that you’ve parked your lawn mower for the winter, what should you do?

  1. Drain the gasoline from the tank. Try using a turkey baster to get all that gas out. Once a year replace the oil. (Frequently check and maintain proper levels throughout the season.) Replace the airfilter. (Filter should be cleaned frequently during the mowing season.) Spray the cylinder with a little oil (WD40) to keep moisture out. Sharpen the blade.
  2. If you have small children consider disconnecting the spark plug wire to prevent inadvertent start-ups.

You follow these same guidelines when storing your gas powered blowers and string trimmers.
